So theres life on Mars?

H. G. Wells would be turning in his grave--with ecstasy. Save for a few hours of horror and panic in London following the broadcast of a radio show in the 1920s of a fiction on Martians landing in London, the world, particularly the scientific world has been oblivious to the frivolity of thought that perhaps life could have or even today does exist on other planets--particularly the most romantic of all planets--Mars. No more. The recent declaration by the NASA scientists that they have discovered, from a Martian asteroid, remnant of fossilized bacteria is earth shaking, out of this world and coolly divine. The repercussions of the discovery are many and would take perhaps decades to unfold but one thing is sure that the earthlings have now connections to talk about. The famous Cairns-Smith model of how life evolved out of reorganization of carbon molecule or for that matter the theories underlying such thesis as Men are from Mars, Women from Venus, all stand to be reevaluated. The possibility that life might have started on earth coming from an alien planet is no longer out of the realm of possibilities. For all you know, we may all be Martians living in our new abode. And if our anatomy is different from our deja vu of how our ancestors looked like (the tentacles and all), this could simply be the result of our bad environment. Back in our ancestral home, things may not have gone smoothly either and they may have transformed into beings that are difficult to visualize for us. Thats why when the NASA probe went Mars, it came with no clues of life because they were looking at the wrong end of the beast. How can you find something if you do not know what you are looking for? Putting nuts and bolts to the evolution theory now seems more plausible if we only begin to look at how life changed on this planet after it was transported from outer space. The difficult part of evolution theory, discussions about how life began on the alien planets, can be shelved at least for now since we do not know enough about these planets. The Cairns-Smith model can be thrown out without causing much damage to the cause of evolution. Once we assume the existence of life, its later transformations become relatively easy to decipher. Now coming back to the theory that men are actually from Mars and women from Venus, it all seems plausible, if we can cut all puns and prejudices aside. It just may have happened that the nucleus of bacteria that later evolved into my wife actually from a different planet. Well, that gives me an entirely new armamentarium of arguments to adduce with her. Species apart, it is not unreasonable for me act different--in her words, like a slob. Well, heres to all my Martian brethren: hang in there, take pride in your heritage and do not succumb to those creatures from Venus. Wear your tentacles with dignity.
