Dear Tanya:

What would go through the mind of Michaelangelo looking at a piece of uncarved marble; what would Matisse make out of a virgin canvas? At age 15 and full of energy, I look at you as the marble or canvas waiting to be turned into a masterpiece creation. When I examine your choices, it brings envy to me, for what you can do tanamounts to conquering the Universe. All you need is proper guidance; energy you already have. So, I give you this guidance based on what I have learned throughout my life that spans three times longer than where you are today. First, you must believe in who you are—an air of self-confidence must continue to exude because you are going to need this in the face of disappointments when everything around you would seem to collapse. Remember, Nature has many ways of testing its humble creatures and nothing devastates a soul more than the loss of self-respect in the face of adversity. Secondly, you must always have a focused mind; there are just too many things to distract you from your chosen path--and this includes many other paths that would not only seem but would actually be better than what you would chosen. The thing to remember is that those on the other path would be envious of your path. There really isn’t an absolute good choice in this Universe. We always make relative choices. The key is not to get distracted from achieving your goals. When a mountaineer responds to the query why he climbs mountains with "because it’s there," it is more than a cliché. Just remember that the most formidable achievements were made by those who appeared least capable, most diminutive, of accomplishing. Next time you are in London, visit Madam Tussad. You will be amazed how small are the figures that appear towering in life.

Tomorrow’s women should be fully prepared to accept the challenges of life. You have chosen a professional career but unfortunately, you are living in a society that enforces women to follow a stereotype life. Resist it. Not that I am against the family structure or the inevitable role of women in home; it’s a fine balance of the professional vs. the domestic life that you need to carve out and let nobody tell you that you have to chose one over other.

I wish you luck and hope that you would have the vision to see through these words of wisdom. For if you do, sheer happiness awaits you with its arms flung open. The choice is yours. Go ahead fulfil your dreams, make an impact. You are as strong as your conviction.
